Well being stuck in here, although very lovely, makes me think about where I want to go when I get ‘out’. My favourite villages strangely enough are not on the lake itself but up the Valtellina valley. We have strong links with this valley, not just because Giulio is Valtellinese – he was born in Morbegno and his mom is from Mello, just above the village (even though he spent his most of his youth in Livigno where his dad is from, Alta Valtellina) and he feels an allegiance with this area. Me too, I remember when I was ski guide in Livigno every Saturday coming up the lake with the guests in the coaches and getting excited seeing the mountains and feeling at home when we passed Colico and entered the Valtellina.
Anyhow I thought the next few articles should be about where to visit, as most of guests know I am passionate about the area and love giving advice about where to visit, often suggesting places where they never knew about and that are not on the usual touristic sights. We have so much to offer here, both for walking and sightseeing that it is a pity not to take advantage of it!
People often say, ‘we did walking in the Dolomites’ but they dont realise that here is also wonderful for walking, actually better because there is also the view of the lake, not just the mountains! The higher you get the better the view!
Another great thing about our area are the great bike routes, we have some lovely cycle tracks, going down the lake as far as Dongo and up the lake – across to the left to Chiavenna or straight on, the Valtellina cycle track which goes all the way to Bormio, otherwise round to Colico. There are also other routes, the wine route from just after Morbegno to Tirano is great. For MTB there are loads of routes up the mountains, for those less fit there are also e mountain bikes for rent in gera lario and domaso.
Anyhow in the next few articles i will tell you a bit about the history and what to do around here. Give you some nice ideas for your next holiday here
